Doha Bank along with the Ministry of Environment joined hands in the Beach Clean-up Campaign along with the Al Wakra Municipality dated 2nd November 2013 with a theme, “Save the Beaches, Save the Fishes, Save the Future”
The theme focuses on human efforts to save the fishes for sustainability of the future generation. Polluted beaches contribute to a detrimental marine ecosystem which harms marine life in the process. As such, Doha Bank aims to further promote eco-consciousness and social responsibility amongst individual to become responsible citizen and help save the beaches.
In the forefront of the Beach Clean-up activity are Doha Bank’s Green Banking Task Force Committee members, the Planet Savers Club comprised of in-house staff volunteers and MOE officials who lead the way to clean-up the rubbish by the shoreline.
Dr. R. Seetharaman, Doha Bank Group CEO said that, “Doha Bank’s green culture has been the driving force in continuously extending its efforts to reach out to the society and be advocates for the green cause. The Beach Clean-up campaign is just one of the campaigns we are proactively engaged in to contribute in saving the environment.”
“Another initiative that we are interested is to ‘‘Adopt-a-Beach’’ whereby we will be able to maintain the cleanliness of a beach on periodic basis for the future generation,” Dr. R. Seetharaman added.
Participants were organized into teams and given assignment to remove the rubbish at their respective areas of responsibility. Al Wakra Municipality was very cooperative in helping preserve the coastal shorelines in line with the 3 R’s concept (reducing, reusing & recycling).
The Ministry of Environment said, “Doha Bank has always supported the Ministry on our efforts towards environment preservation and looking forward to this cooperation to further the cleaning and greening of Qatar campaign.”
